  2. Exposition

What is significant about the fact that the queen of Sheba came to Jerusalem?

1 Kings 10:2 (ESV)

2 She came to Jerusalem with a very great retinue, with camels bearing spices and very much gold and precious stones. And when she came to Solomon, she told him all that was on her mind.

The visit by the queen of Sheba is the highlight of the description of Solomon’s kingship in 1 Kings 1:1 – 10:29. Solomon’s grandeur and majesty have not remained unnoticed in the world. The God of Israel has made something very beautiful from his chosen people, the king, and the capital Jerusalem. The nation of Israel is not destined to play an insignificant role on the international stage. God apparently wants to show that Israel’s faith in God leads to grand things: grandeur and glory, and international fame.
