Moses learned that the God of the great patriarchs, who were still very much alive with him in glory (Mark 12:26; Luke 20:37), was also the God of his father Amram. Once again the Lord made it clear that he was doing a great and powerful work through the generations. The God who appeared to him on the mountain is not only Almighty in glory and power but also eternal in his loving relationship with believers and their children in the covenant. Just as Moses learned that he was a part of this historical work of God through the generations because his father trusted in the Lord, so also we understand how blessed we are to be in the place of God’s saving work in the world through the covenant.
6 And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
