Although he is in heaven, the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are open to their cries (Psalm 34:15), so that he hears our prayers (Psalm 65:2). We are encouraged to cry out to the Lord in our distress, to trust in his sovereign power and enrich our lives with the promises of his grace. Although we may wonder why the Lord does not always respond immediately to give us respite from our suffering, he is always in control. He sees, he hears, he knows, and in his grace to us he also preserves us. Do not be afraid. Though we burn, we are not consumed, for the Lord is always at work.
