Mark 2:3–4 (ESV)

3 And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men.

It is not unusual that a sick person is brought to Jesus—that happened all the time. The way in which the man is brought to Jesus is striking. Four friends carry him on a mattress and break into the house through the roof. The faith that Jesus sees in these men is also special, as stated in Mark 2:5.

This is where the story could have ended! In fact, the healing of the paralytic does not proceed until after the scribes begin to grumble between themselves.
