What identity is ascribed to the Lord God?

Revelation 18:8 (ESV)

8 For this reason her plagues will come in a single day, death and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.”

The Lord God is described as “strong,” a term that contrasts with “weak.” Though used of creatures (Revelation 6:15) to describe the superiority of some over others, the term preeminently belongs to God inasmuch as he as Creator is obviously “strong” in relation to any creature he made. So we find the term used of Jesus Christ in celebration of his ascension to the world’s throne (Revelation 5:12) and of his providing salvation to the multitude of the redeemed (Revelation 7:12). As the Lamb is “Lord of lords and King of kings” (Revelation 17:14), he is “strong” in relation to every king or queen. This “mighty” one has judged the prostitute and has the strength to administer the judgment. Since he is mighty, the plagues God announced can happen so suddenly and so completely.
