1. Revelation 18:14 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does “has gone from you” refer to?

Revelation 18:14 (ESV)

14 “The fruit for which your soul longed has gone from you, and all your delicacies and your splendors are lost to you, never to be found again!”

The fact that no one buys the merchants’ cargo anymore (Revelation 18:11) means the merchants cannot sustain their trade. The result in turn is that shelves run empty, and so whatever the elite would yet like to purchase is no longer available. The thought is repeated in the next line when John writes, “all your delicacies and your splendors are lost to you.”
