1. Psalm 1:1–6 (ESV)
  2. Application

Abiding in Christ in order to be fruitful

Psalm 1:1–6 (ESV)

1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

We cannot take any credit for being planted by streams of water and for the fruit we produce. Trees do not plant themselves. Neither do we plant ourselves. It is the Lord. He is our master gardener, our master planter. He has planted us firmly in his Word. He has rooted us in Christ. We thrive because of his grace and mercy.

The Lord Jesus realizes too that we can only be fruitful if we abide in him. John 15:1: I am the vine, and my Father is the vinedresser…. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abie in me. To be planted by streams of water and to be fruitful in our lives as Christians is a precious gift from the master gardener. All praise belongs to him!
