The term “firstfruits” (rēšîṯ) refers to the first and best, or the choicest portion. Some have suggested that the term refers to “the first-processed” of things such as grain, wine, oil, fruit syrup, leaven, and dough (see also Numbers 18:12–13, Numbers 18:27). The New Testament refers to Christ’s resurrection as the firstfruits, for his resurrection signals the first for millions of those who would believe in him (1 Corinthians 15:20).
12 As an offering of firstfruits you may bring them to the LORD, but they shall not be offered on the altar for a pleasing aroma.
