1. Malachi 2:4 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

How does the Lord’s command to terminate the Levitical priesthood (Mal. 2:3) serve to make the covenant with Levi to stand?

Malachi 2:4 (ESV)

4 So shall you know that I have sent this command to you, that my covenant with Levi may stand, says the LORD of hosts.

God’s covenant curse and punishment are intended to facilitate covenant renewal. In this case, the Lord brings an end to the unfaithful line of priests, in order that he might bring forth a better priesthood.
