In Malachi’s day, God’s Word was entrusted to the priests. They were the repository of God’s revelation. The scrolls that contained a record of God’s inspired word were housed in the temple. The priests were to study these scrolls and learn God’s Word, and then teach the people. Today, we live in a different world, where we have God’s Word in the Bible, of which many of us have multiple copies, in book format, in digital format on our smartphone, iPad, and laptop. One might assume that the need for teachers has diminished. However, the age of communication that we live in also means that the devil has many more ways to disseminate lies and half-truths. While we have easier access to the truth, we also are inundated with error, and for every book printed that conveys the Word in truth, there are at least as many that distort the truth. We still have a need for faithful teachers of God’s Word to teach us the truth and to expose the lies of the evil one. Pray for your leaders, that they may be faithful guides that lead you in the truth. Do not blindly follow the leader, but test all things on the touchstone of Holy Scripture.
7 For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.
