The Greek word “pistos” means faithfulness. This is how our good God is typified. He truly does what he promises. There is no need to doubt this for a moment. The whole Scripture is full of this (1 Corinthians 1:9; 2 Timothy 2:13). This faithful God calls us through the proclamation of the gospel (2 Thessalonians 2:14). This underlines the great importance of preaching. A central text here is 2 Corinthians 5:20: God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
Whoever responds to this will discover how wonderfully God makes us share in the saving work of our Saviour Jesus. And how certain it is that he keeps us in all the troubles that we have to go through in our life on earth. The apostle writes beautifully about this in Romans 8:28–39. Truly, nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. That is exactly what the faithful God promises us.
24 He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
