Justice of God’s judgment

Habakkuk 2:7–8 (ESV)

7 Will not your debtors suddenly arise, and those awake who will make you tremble? Then you will be spoil for them.

You noticed as the Lord talks to the Babylonians in Habakkuk 2:7: will not those who make you shatter awake and you shall become plunder for them. Babylon had plundered other peoples, and the day is going to come when these others will make plunder of Babylon. Or in Habakkuk 2:8, for you, you have pillaged many nations, all remaining peoples will pillage you. What you have done will be dealt back to you—the justice of God’s judgment. In other words, what Babylon had dealt out in oppression and violence, they would receive back in the same coin. Sometimes you use the long-handled term, retribution, for that. What they dished out, they would receive in kind. That is justice, the justice of God’s judgment.1
