The reasons behind the Lord Jesus' choice of topics in the Sermon on the Mount
Matthew 5:1–7:29 (ESV)
1Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.
The Lord Jesus selected certain topics in the Sermon on the Mount because they were debated issues among first-century Jews. One such example is divorce (Matthew 5:31–32; Matthew 19:3–9).
