Habakkuk 2:13 (ESV)

13 Behold, is it not from the LORD of hosts that peoples labor merely for fire, and nations weary themselves for nothing?

In the first chapter, Haggai says, you have sown much and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough. You drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes. It is a vivid picture, isn’t it? You work and labour and toil for nothing. You are never satisfied. You never find fulfillment. You do not have peace. You do not have contentment. You do all this for nothing. There are lots of people like that out there in the world. They work hard. They labour. They have ambition. But they are never satisfied. They never find that peace. They never find that contentment.1
