Revelation 18:21–24 (ESV)

21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence, and will be found no more;

The fall of Babylon, proclaimed in Revelation 18:2 and bewailed in Revelation 18:9–20, is not meant to leave a mess on earth. So complete is the justice of God that fallen Babylon in its entirety is thrown away, so that no trace of what she sought to accomplish can be found. See also Matthew 24:39; 2 Peter 3:10–13. Here is great comfort for the people of God as they find themselves shunned and victimized on account of their refusal to build along on a man-centred, anti-God paradise. The wrongs they experience in this life will be vindicated.
