The major difference between the peace offering and the burnt offering is the inclusion of male and female animals (Leviticus 4:23, Leviticus 4:28). In the Ancient Near East it was common place to sacrifice male animals to male deities and female animals to goddesses. The lack of gender distinction in this instance may be a response to pagan practices of the time. In addition to this, the peace offering did not form part of the regular daily offerings in the temple. The burnt offerings and cereal offerings were brought every morning and evening. Finally, in contrast to the previous offerings, the worshipper was allowed to eat part of the animal himself.
1 “If his offering is a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offers an animal from the herd, male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD.
