Have you ever felt that if you were in control of your life, your life would’ve looked a lot different than it does today? Some of the trials that the Lord makes us endure don’t seem to make sense. Some of the things he has called us to do, seem pretty hopeless for us to accomplish. Even when God has promised to bless us when we trust in him, we have trouble believing that he will keep his promises. In our text, Moses was facing that kind of obstacle, and what made it worse was that he had so much trouble believing that he was the right person for the job. He expected that the people of God would simply deny his claims (Exodus 4:1), even though the Lord had told him that they would listen to his voice (Exodus 3:18). He did not believe that he had the right skill set, even though God himself had made it clear that he had, by choosing him and sending him (Exodus 3:18). Before Moses spoke on God’s behalf, he himself had to learn to hear and trust the Lord’s voice.
1 Then Moses answered, “But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, ‘The LORD did not appear to you.’”
