1. Leviticus 5:1 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

How shall a person guilty of sin “bear his iniquity”?

Leviticus 5:1 (ESV)

1 “If anyone sins in that he hears a public adjuration to testify, and though he is a witness, whether he has seen or come to know the matter, yet does not speak, he shall bear his iniquity;

This phrase (wᵉnāśā ‘ªwōnô’) means that such a person is not only responsible for his sin, but for the punishment he deserves (see also Leviticus 20:20; Leviticus 22:9; Exodus 28:43). This punishment would be poured out by the Lord (see Judges 17:2).
