What was to be offered to the LORD for forgiveness?

Leviticus 5:15 (ESV)

15 “If anyone commits a breach of faith and sins unintentionally in any of the holy things of the LORD, he shall bring to the LORD as his compensation, a ram without blemish out of the flock, valued in silver shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, for a guilt offering.

In order for the worshipper to be restored with the Lord, he is required to present a ram without blemish for sacrifice. It seems that the passage allows for the offering to be converted to currency. In other words, the offender can pay cash in lieu of an animal.
