These words are very significant. The desolation that the day of the Lord brings will touch the cosmos, making it what it was before the ordering hand of God transformed it—the light of sun and moon are gone. Humankind set out to rule without God, but this rule has brought back the primeval meaninglessness of Genesis 1:2.
