Jephthah toured Gilead and Manasseh to muster his troops and headed out against the Ammonites. Though we are not given particular details on what he did on his tour, we may expect, on the analogy of the Gideon narrative (Judges 6:34–35), that Jephthah sounded the trumpet throughout these lands and issued the command for all able-bodied men to take up arms.1
29 Then the Spirit of the LORD was upon Jephthah, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh and passed on to Mizpah of Gilead, and from Mizpah of Gilead he passed on to the Ammonites.
