The Bible often refers to this day. We find no special description of that day. It is assumed to be known by the prophets from Isaiah through Malachi. This day is also mentioned in the New Testament. It is not easy to describe in short what that day entails. In the Old Testament it is mainly a day when God is going to judge. For that day see, e.g., Isaiah 2:1–22; Isaiah 13:1–22; Isaiah 61:1–11; Lamentations 2:22; Ezekiel 7:1–27; Ezekiel 13:1–23; Ezekiel 30:1–26; Amos 5:1–27; Obadiah 1:1–21; Zephaniah 1:1 – 3:20; Malachi 4:1–6. Joel warns his people. The disasters that afflict you are not only an ordinary
punishment from God, but they also foreshadow the great judgment day, when God will punish everything and everyone for their sins. That punishment is also going to affect God’s people. In the New Testament, this day recurs as the day of final judgment that God will one day pronounce on the entire world of all ages (Acts 17:31; 1 Thessalonians 5:2; Revelation 20:11–15).
15 Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is near, and as destruction from the Almighty it comes.
