From the moment this promise was made, God’s people have looked forward to the fulfillment of this promise. This promise was also announced in, for example, Ezekiel 39:29; Isaiah 32:15; Isaiah 44:3; Zechariah 12:10. This expectation continued for hundreds of years. At the first Christian Pentecost, Peter may exclaim that Joel’s prophecy has now been fulfilled (Acts 2:1–47)! It may take a long time, but God’s promises always come true.
