We live in a time where God is ignored or mocked. Whether it is programs on television or cartoons in the newspaper, there is little regard for the Lord. The pagan world around us denies God’s power and certainly does not fear God’s judgment. More and more, the Christian faith is seen as a lifestyle choice, one of many to choose from. There is no judgment, there is nothing to fear; all religions are the same.
The words of Rahab in Joshua 2:9–13 remind us that one day there will be judgment. For the people of Canaan it came just over 3,000 years ago. For the people living today, it will come when Christ returns in glory or when we die. We will all stand before the Lord and then we will not be able to deny his power or laugh at thoughts of judgment.
For those who find themselves outside of God’s family, the day of judgment will be a day of fear and terror. But for Christians, for those who believe in Jesus Christ, we have nothing to fear. Our day of judgment has already come. Our day of judgment took place on the cross of Calvary, where Jesus Christ bore the wrath of God in our place. The cross was where God’s awesome power to save his people was displayed in a much greater way than any rescue from Egypt or battle with an Amorite king.
