The term Peter uses has the sense of walking away with the prize you have received (be it booty of war or award in athletic competition; see 1 Peter 5:4); the walking away expresses indisputable ownership. The picture here is of the born-again person receiving his inheritance on the last day (1 Peter 1:5) and walking away with it as his personal possession. That moment represents the climax of the joy that comes with love for the Lord.
