Jesus Christ received his names after his birth (Matthew 1:21). He existed, though, long before he appeared in the flesh, for he is the Son of God, eternal with the Father. Since through him the Father created all things (Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 1:2), there is no reason for us to be surprised that the Son of God was active throughout the Old Testament era, prompting the prophets to speak as he wished. In fact, before the foundation of the world already (1 Peter 1:20) God had set his Son apart to be the Redeemer and so again we ought not to be surprised that in the OT the Son prepared the way for his coming in the flesh and fulfilling his God-given mandate. Through his Spirit, he himself “predicted” his own future sufferings and glories.
11 inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories.
