How much was an ephah?

Leviticus 6:20 (ESV)

20 “This is the offering that Aaron and his sons shall offer to the LORD on the day when he is anointed: a tenth of an ephah of fine flour as a regular grain offering, half of it in the morning and half in the evening.

An ephah was one of the most common dry measurements in Israel (see also Leviticus 19:36). This would have been equivalent to about twenty-two litres. The priest was only required to present one-tenth of an ephah of fine flour as a grain offering. This would have been about two litres. Half of it was offered in the morning while the other half was offering in the evening.
