  2. Exposition

What is the kingdom of God?

Acts 1:3 (ESV)

3 He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.

The kingdom of God is the redemptive rule and reign of God,1 the place where Christ reigns as King and is acknowledged as King. This kingdom advances as people recognize Christ as king and serve him. The church itself is the fruit and instrument of the kingdom, being the place where the kingdom is visibly seen (the fruit) as well as the people whom Christ fills by his Spirit and uses to bring his elect into the kingdom (the instrument).
