It is important for us to cultivate a sense of expectation regarding the day of Christ, and not to live as though all our hopes are fixed on this present world. As Paul wrote to the Romans: “We ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience” (Romans 8:23–25). In times of suffering, this hope is a great encouragement.
10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.
