1. 1 Thessalonians 2:1 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why is Paul so emphatic?

1 Thessalonians 2:1 (ESV)

1 For you yourselves know, brothers, that our coming to you was not in vain.

The statement, “You yourselves know,” is emphatic, for Paul wants the Thessalonian believers to know that they have no reason to doubt these matters of which he speaks. If, due to persecution or inner uncertainty, they do begin to doubt, they must think calmly about the facts of which they are already aware.
