What does “made manifest” mean?

1 Peter 1:20 (ESV)

20 He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you

The decision God made before creation to send his Son into the world had to be revealed in the course of time. This happened with the birth of Jesus Christ in a particular place and time in history (Bethlehem, during the reign of Caesar Augustus), with increasing clarity provided over the following years as to the exact identity of the Son of Mary and the purpose of his coming.
