There is a parallelism in parts two and three of this verse: before there comes upon you the burning anger of the Lord, before there comes upon you the day of the anger of the Lord.
The second clause changes only one word of the first phrase: instead of “the burning of the wrath of the Lord,” it reads “the Day of the wrath of the Lord.” The day of the Lord is nothing less than the occasion of the fierce burning of his wrath.
2 before the decree takes effect before the day passes away like chaff before there comes upon you the burning anger of the LORD, before there comes upon you the day of the anger of the LORD.
