1. Zephaniah 2:3 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does the call to “seek the LORD” express?

Zephaniah 2:3 (ESV)

3 Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, who do his just commands; seek righteousness; seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the anger of the LORD.

Zephaniah uses the verb seek three times in this verse, each time as a command. The command expresses the necessity of repentance and the importance of looking to God in righteousness. Judah needs to see that the only adequate refuge from the consuming wrath of Yahweh may be found in Yahweh himself.1
