1. Acts 3:13 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why does Peter refer to Jesus as God’s servant?

Acts 3:13 (ESV)

13 The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him.

The reference to Jesus as God’s servant connects Jesus to the servant of the Lord prophesied in Isaiah 52:13 – 53:12. As God’s glorified servant, Jesus has the power to do signs and miracles such as the healing of the crippled man. Prophecies of the servant are also cited or alluded to in Mark 10:45; Mark 14:24; Luke 22:37; John 12:38; and Acts 8:32.1
