In the Old Testament, God is referred to as the Holy One (1 Samuel 2:2; Isaiah 1:4) and the Righteous One (Psalm 129:4). The use of the combined phrase with reference to Jesus highlights the fact that he is the Christ (Messiah) and that he was unreservedly devoted to doing God’s will (see Psalm 89:18; Isaiah 53:11; Luke 4:34; John 6:69).1 He was perfectly obedient to God’s law.2
