1. Acts 3:18 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why does Peter draw attention to the fact that Jesus’ death was foretold?

Acts 3:18 (ESV)

18 But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled.

Peter draws attention to what the prophets foretold in order to emphasize the fact that Jesus’ death was not arbitrary or the result of a tragic accident. Even though it was engineered and carried out by human beings, it was nevertheless also the climax of God’s plan of salvation (cf. Isaiah 53:12; Luke 22:22; 1 Peter 1:20–21). A plan which God revealed in the prophets.
