In 1 Peter 2:13 Peter had said that his readers were to “be subject” for the Lord’s sake. At stake was God’s own reputation in the community. In 1 Peter 2:15 Peter adds a further reason, this time connected to the good progress of the gospel as captured in the phrase “put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.”
15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.
