1. Mark 4:26 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is new in the comparison of the kingdom of God to the process of seed being sown and it growing?

Mark 4:26 (ESV)

26 And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground.

In the earlier parable it was about the difference in effect on the one seed. The seed is still the same, but it evokes different reactions. The focus was on listening to Jesus. Now Jesus zooms in closer on that seed. The point here is that the coming of God’s kingdom to earth is comparable to the process of the seed being sown and growing. Thus, it is actually a very simple picture. God’s great kingdom comes in the way of sowing, of proclaiming the Word.
