Although David prays full of compassion for the people who threaten his life, he also prays for the destruction of the wicked men. Let they perish in the snares they laid by themselves but let me escape.
The meaning of this prayer will not be that David is now full of personal revenge. That does not fit with the preceding verses of this psalm. But in the end, evil will not triumph. That is the deep trust of David. How hard the time may be for righteous people like him, God will finally save them and all evil will come into judgment. That gives David peace and trust. Full of faith he can put his life in God’s hand. In the end all will be well.
10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely.
