Paul asserts—as does Jesus in Matthew 23:32—that unbelieving Jews, who have been heaping up their guilt over generations, are deeply involved in this process. The temporal adverb always
shows that Paul is thinking about something that has been going on over a long period of time, and the implication is that God’s judgment will fall soon.
