Joyful worship in the midst of the world

Revelation 19:1–5 (ESV)

1 After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out, “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,

The overriding mood that is to characterize the people of God (that is, the seven churches of all ages) is one of joyful worship. Though we repeatedly witness the allurements of Babylon all around us (recall Revelation 17:6, Revelation 17:14), the fact is that every Babylon is fallen (Revelation 18:2) on account of Jesus’ glorious victory (Revelation 17:14). So the summons of heavenly voices holds true for all creation: Hallelujah, praise our God! That praiseful mood may characterize the church even as she witnesses Babylonic efforts all around her.
