God still allows Satan much freedom of movement here on earth (1 Peter 5:8). Satan can go anywhere he likes on earth. As if to hide his evil intentions, he answers the Lord’s question simply by saying that he has roamed through the earth, going back and forth in it.
7 The LORD said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.”
