Just as God’s people are called “the sons of God” (Deuteronomy 32:8), so the people of pagan nations are called “the daughters of a foreign god.” That Judah has married the daughter of a foreign god means that the people of Judah were intermarrying with the people of the nations around them, something expressly forbidden by the Lord (Exodus 34:14–16, Deuteronomy 7:3–4).
11 Judah has been faithless, and abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the LORD, which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.
