Despite the large crowds gathering around Jesus (Mark 5:21), he is willing to pause for a desperate individual. As Edwards1 writes, Mark testifies to Jesus’ commitment to minister to human need and to the inestimable worth of the human individual for Jesus.
This gracious commitment toward individuals is illustrated again, when Jesus pauses to single out the bleeding woman and speak with her (Mark 5:34). Both of the stories in this section highlight that the nature of Jesus’ ministry is concerned and attentive to people, as much as it was preparing him for the larger scale work of salvation.
24 And he went with him.And a great crowd followed him and thronged about him.
