The test has not yet been completed. That is why Job’s reaction is not immediately described as with the first test (Job 1:20–21). Job’s wife comes on the scene first. She tells Job to do that which Satan had believed Job would do: curse God! In these words there may lie the suggestion that Job commit suicide.
We should look at Job’s wife with compassion. She had lost all her children. She saw her husband suffering and could not see any possible way of recovery. In typical fashion Satan has hidden himself, tempting Job through a grieving wife and mother.
9 Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die.”
