1. Mark 1:25 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

How does this verse show that Jesus did not “come to destroy” (Mark 1:24)?

Mark 1:25 (ESV)

25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!”

He rebukes the spirit by removing him from his home. He does that by saying, Be silent, and come out of him! To the ears and eyes of the people in the synagogue it was a man who spoke, but Jesus separated the unclean spirit from the man. There had been an identification, but Jesus nullifies it. And by doing that, he provided evidence to the contrary: the man who was a victim is now healed because Jesus came to Capernaum. Jesus separates the seed of the woman from the seed of the serpent!1
