1 Peter 3:8 positively lists an interconnected series of attitudes and conduct required amongst Peter’s readers. The first part of 1 Peter 3:9 negatively forbids other conduct and encourages its converse. Thereafter, 1 Peter 3:9–12 provides the motivation for persevering in both forms of conduct.
8 Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.
