The term Peter uses means to feel along with
another. It deliberately follows the previous term “unity of mind” and directs Peter’s readers on the attitude they must have in the face of disagreement. Having “sympathy” implies that one seeks to understand the other’s feelings and struggles so as to attain a better degree of unity in thought and conduct.
8 Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.
