Other parallels in Scripture may suggest a sense of communion with God. For example, in Exodus 24:1–18, the blood of the covenant indicated that Israel had become the people of God. Similarly, in Leviticus 14:14, a cleaned leper had blood smeared on his right ear, thumb, and toe. The blood smearing indicated that the leper was brought back into communion with God. In this instance, the blood showed that Aaron was now God’s special representative among the nation of Israel.
23 And he killed it, and Moses took some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear and on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot.
