  2. Exposition

What is Paul’s assertion in Romans 14:13-23?

Romans 14:13–23 (ESV)

13 Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.

He warns against offending your brother or sister or causing him of her to stumble (Romans 14:20–21; compare what Jesus says in Matthew 18:5–6). What is sin to one person is not sin to another. Suppose someone has had problems with alcohol. He or she should stay away from it. It has become a sin for him or her. Something can be good in itself (see 1 Timothy 4:1–5), but at the same time it can be a problem for another. Help your brother or sister and do not tempt him or her.
